more changes

changed my background on the style sheet to change it on all pages due to colour troubles (the colour used was not web safe). I needed to match the background image to the background fill on the div.

I fixed this by making my background image transparent in Photoshop. That meant that the background colour came through.

Having the external stylesheet it allowed me to change all of the backgrounds at the same time, which saved heaps of time.

Logan's Key Factor Report

Design Factors:

Image Formats: http://digiterm2.blogspot.co.nz/2013/06/image-types.html

Screen Resolution: http://digiterm2.blogspot.co.nz/2013/06/screen-resolutions.html

Font: http://digiterm2.blogspot.co.nz/2013/05/fonts.html

Colour Scheme: The colour scheme must be fit for the purpose and target audience the website is being made for, it should also be web safe (there are 216 that can be used) so that it will show up when it is viewed on the web it also shouldn't hinder the navigation of your page e.g. conflicting colours which will make text unreadable. The implications of colour scheme on my website will be whether or not the scheme will hinder the viewer from reading my website and whether or not the scheme will be suitable for my target audience.

Resource Factors:

There is one major resource factor which is time management. This is factor because if your time is not managed well you can fall behind schedule. There are several ways you can use to help you manage your time such as planning tools (http://digiterm2.blogspot.co.nz/2013/05/planning-tools.html) which give a schedule to keep to. Implications of not managing your time could be that you fail the standard or website can look rushed.

Societal Factors:

The main factor here is copyright this will affect the images I use on my website as most of the material I use will have to be my own when using images created by others i must make sure that the image is usable under creative commons or that i have permission from the creator to use the image. To make sure that I do not infringe copyright i shouldn't source my images from google images. The Implications of infringing copyright are serious as i could be fined.

Research Progress Logan

So far I am up to date with my research and other work so everything is progressing nicely.

Image Types

What are the three most common image types you can publish to the web?
The three most common image type for web publishing are PNG, JPEG and GIF.

What is the implication of this on your project?
The implication of this on my project is that these image types are designed for web use and that the all of images i use will have to be in of these formats or they won't show up when my website is viewed.

Screen Resolutions

What is the most common screen size in use in 2013?
the most common screen size is 1366x768 as this is the common laptop or notebook screen size which are very popular in recent times.

What resolution will you design for?

I will design for 1024x768 as it is also a common screen size

What is the maximum number of pixels that can be displayed on a screen?

for a common 19" screen the max resolution is 1280x1024 but resolutions can become larger with larger screen size e.g. using a plasma tv as a monitor.

What implication will screen size and resolution have on my website

it will determine whether or not people will have to scroll down or not on my website, it can also affect the quality of some images on the website so basically how easy it is to view my website.

Gantt Chart

My gantt chart says that today I should be working on my final brief but I am not up to this as we have had exams and lost three periods and had a long weekend which meant we lost around 2 weeks of work putting me behind schedule

Fonts

Web-safe fonts are fonts that are found on a wide range of computer systems, and used by Web content authors to increase the likelihood that content will be displayed in their chosen font. If a visitor to a Web site does not have the specified font, their browser will attempt to select a similar alternative, based on the author-specified fallback fonts and generic families or it will use font substitution defined in the visitor's operating system.

A web font is a typeface installed with a web browser, and typically (although not always) designed for screen-use. The term is also used to describe typefaces that can be used by designers when authoring webpages.

The implications of font on my website is that i will have to include the download for the fonts i have used if they are not web safe.

Websites that web fonts can be found on are:

http://www.google.com/fonts/

planning Tools

Gantt Chart

Gantt charts are useful for planning complex projects. They show the tasks involved in making a product, with any overlaps between different tasks. Gantt charts usually use colour to indicate separate tasks or workflows. I will use my Gantt Chart to see what task i will be doing and on which day.

Flow Charts

Start, sand down edge, is edge smooth? yes - paint product, stop. No - sand down edge.
Flowcharts describe a sequence. All flowcharts use the same symbols, linked with arrows to show the direction of the flow.
  • start and finish are rectangular with rounded corners
  • process boxes are rectangular with square corners
  • decision boxes are diamond shaped

Journal

Journal is an easy way to keep track of the work you are doing as you are recording what you did and when you did it
